Hannah Magdalene Johnson (Peterson)

Hannah Magdalene Peterson Johnson, 100, of Carlton, passed on Sunday, December 18, 2016 into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and sits at the hand of God in Heaven.

Hannah was born to Swedish immigrant homesteading pioneers on the prairie near Litchville, North Dakota on November 10, 1916. Her birth in a prairie home was to Tekla Munson-Peterson and John Peterson. In 1916, shortly after Hannah’s birth, the family moved and developed a dairy and potato farm new Sandy Lake, Barnum, Minnesota.

In 1946, Hannah was joined in matrimony with Sherman K. Johnson and they lived and worked in the Cloquet area until Sherman’s passing in 2010. Hannah has been a resident of Carlton Place and Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton since 2002.

She was a 1957 charter member of Grace Baptist Church, Cloquet. She was active and involved in numerous church activities throughout her Life. The high light of her life was to serve Jesus through church activities. On Sunday, November 13, 2016, the Grace Baptist Church congregation celebrated, with Hannah in attendance, her 100th birthday.

Hannah received nursing training and worked at the Moose Lake hospital from 1939 – 1942. She worked as a care giver throughout her entire life. She was an LPN at the Raiter Hospital in Cloquet from 1950 – 1965. From 1967 – 1979 she was a home health care provider with a specialty in foot care.

Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman in 2010; her father, John in 1938; mother, Tekla in 1946; brothers, Harry and Harold Peterson; and sisters, Astrid and Hazel Peterson.

Hannah has been surrounded with friends and family throughout her life with special care being provided during her last year as a hospice patient.

She is survived by ten nieces and nephews and over two dozen great nieces and nephews.
