Kenneth Wilbur Johnson

Kenneth Wilbur Johnson, age 90 of Cloquet went to be with His Lord on September 28, 2010 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Cloquet on March 30, 1920 to Axel and Hilma (Peterson) Johnson. As a young adult Kenny was a part of the Civilian Conservation Corps and traveled across the country. He then enlisted in the Army and during WWII served in Africa, the Pacific and the European Theatre. He received 2 Bronze Stars for his service. After he was discharged he married his long-time sweetheart Margaret Olson on January 18, 1947. Kenny was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet.

Known to his family as "Bo", Kenny was a gentle, loving man with a sense of humor that he kept until the end. Kenny went about his life quietly and was always willing to lend a helping hand. As a child of the depression, there was nothing he couldn't do or fix and he enjoyed working with tools.

Kenny was devoted to his family and the joy of his and Margaret's life were their three granddaughters.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Inter-Faith Care Center and the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret and siblings Clarence, Willard, Edna and Shirley Johnson. Kenny is survived by his children Duane (Annette) and Diane (Steve) Parkhurst, granddaughters Jessica (Greg) Kryzer, Elizabeth and Meghan Johnson and step-grandchildren Michael and Amber Shaw.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in the Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Ave, Cloquet. The family will receive friends for 1 hour before the service also at the funeral home. There will be a luncheon after the service in the funeral home reception area.

Interment in Sandy Lake Cemetery, Blackhoof Township. Military honors accorded with Carlton VFW Honor Guard.
